Tramway Project Work to Begin March 26

The contractor is scheduled to begin their work on the Tramway Project at the corner of President’s Street and Tramway Court on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. The City is no different than any other entity in the fact that it must wait on such things as utility relocation (you will notice a new power pole in place at the site which was relocated from the work area); utility conflicts – a Spire Energy line is in place at the same depth as the the new drainage pipe will be placed, this matter had to be resolved; and of course the weather – as the work is occurring in a drainage area that serves a significant drainage basin, this fact coupled with the unusually wet winter has played havoc with scheduling for this project.

All this being said, the City, like you, wants to get this project completed as soon as possible.

As to the storm inlet covers with the suggestion to use iron covers, Leeds, like most other city’s across America, have stopped using the metal lids due to cost and theft. Regrettably, certain recycling facilities will accept these items – which is illegal – and pay cash to the criminals who steal the covers.

A work order has been created for the inlet in question and it will be put in place as soon as possible. Please remember that you should report such issues using the Report a Concern page at leedsalabama.org.

Thank you for taking the time to bring these issues to our attention.
