AL.com article – Buc-ee’s taking shape at Leeds interchange but won’t open until 2021 – Updated Sep 23, 2020; Posted Sep 23, 2020 – n and around Leeds, the question is the same: “When’s it going to open?”

The “it” is Buc-ee’s, the sprawling, Texas-sized gas station and convenience chain based in the Lone Star State, which broke ground in Leeds in June 2019.

Poor weather conditions put construction behind schedule at the site off Exit 140 on Interstate 20 near the Outlet Shops at Grand River.

Buc-ee’s opened its first Alabama location in Baldwin County in January 2019, the first outside of the state of Texas. Leeds will be the second. Buc-ee’s is currently building another store in Warner Robins, Ga., off Interstate 75.

A company spokesman said today that they anticipate the store will open early in the first quarter of 2021. Leeds Mayor David Miller said in July the store could open next January, if not sooner.

Chain founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin III has described Buc-ee’s as “the Disney of convenience stores.” A peek at the scale of the planned store shows why. Leeds’ location will have a store exceeding 50,000 square feet and more than 100 gas pumps.
