Coronavirus Leeds Update

CORONAVIRUS LEEDS UPDATE: Here’s what we know so far about COVID-19:
There are no reported cases in the State of Alabama as of this morning. The mortality rate is very low; estimates range from 1-4% with the vast majority of those deaths among the elderly and most of those within a west coast nursing home. The virus is far less deadly than the flu which killed over 20,000 people in the US last year. Given this background, hygiene precautions and avoidance of large crowds are the main prevention measures recommended by the CDC. Despite this, the media has fanned the flames of panic and store shelves are emptying as if we were facing a widespread Ebola epidemic. City of Leeds services will continue as normal until scientific evidence cautions otherwise. ~Mayor David Miller
